TUESDAY ENTERTAINMENT

The fall line-up for Tuesday is full. There are a number of shows that are on at the same time and it causes a major dilemma. WHAT TO WATCH!

CSI

OR

SHARK TANK?

I like both these shows, but CSI is a series and I don't want to miss out on the plot line...so I may have to TEVO one and watch it on Saturday.

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE is also on at this time....I like to laugh at the people who think they can dance, but are HORRIBLE...like....

...this man...who calls himself, "SEX." Yes, that's right....his "stage name" is "SEX!" Every year they tell him he can't dance and every year he comes back and tries out.

DANCING WITH THE STARS is on next. I usually watch this while I am blogging.

A new show this season is THE FORGOTTEN. It's told from the victim's standpoint. This is on at 9 pm so I may TEVO this and watch it on Saturday too. This is on at the same as....

...THE GOOD WIFE....which I will NOT be watching. I've had my fill of male bashing shows. Infidelity with public figures is in the news enough, I don't need to watch a fictional show about it too.

WHAT WILL YOU BE WATCHING?

WORDLESS WEDNESDAY #59...THE LIZARD DANCE!

MONDAY NIGHT ENTERTAINMENT

On Monday nights I like to watch...

...DANCING WITH THE STARS. With so many contestants it is two hours, right now, so I only watch an hour of it.

My favorite couples are:

Louis Van Amstel and Kelly Osbourne

Mark Dacascos and Lacey Schwimmer

Debi Mazar and Maksim Chmerkovskiy

Kym Johnson and Donny Osmond

Then I flip to....

...LIE TO ME! This is a great show. The main character is a master at reading people and by body movements, facial expressions and tone of voice can tell it you are lying.

Then I flip to CASTLE. It's about a crime novelist that follows a detective around for research on his new book and in the process helps the cops solve crimes. Not sure how long I'll watch this one, though. It's kind of "hokey," and it's on from 9-10 pm. Not sure if losing an hour of sleep is worth it.

WHAT WILL YOU BE WATCHING?

TWO SENSE TUESDAYS #30...Attention Seeking

Being a new mother I seem to get a lot of advice, which can be helpful, but is also very frustrating when it's from people who are insistent that their way is the BEST way. I also get advice (because I'm an adoptive mother) from those who think that my son is just a stand-in until I get "the real thing."

Each week I will post a new question. I'd love it if you'd play along and offer us new mothers your pearls of wisdom.

HERE IS THIS WEEK'S QUESTION:

WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOUR CHILD USES NEGATIVE BEHAVIORS TO GET YOUR ATTENTION?

SHOPPING WITHOUT SPENDING A PENNY

I went to the second hand children's store, on my way home from work, and found some great deals. The total cost of these outfits was only $11.00. Then, to top it off, I had a credit there, so they didn't cost me a penny! SCORE!

I love the little moose on the dark green one! Moose remind me of where I grew up in New Hampshire. In one weeks time it's dropped 20 degrees here. One day Samuel was wearing onesies with no socks and the next day I had him in flannel sleepers. I still need a few more warm outfits, but the selection for boys clothes was pitiful. I may have to break down and look at WalMart.

ANOTHER GIVE AWAY

On September 18th, I tried to give these away, but after 60 people clicked on my site, no one wanted them. So, I am including them with this give away.

I have way to many craft books. This one is great because it gives colored pictures with the step-by-step directions.

Here are a couple examples of what they offer....

RULES:

1. To have a chance at winning this book, leave a comment that answers this: "Why didn't you want to enter and win the last giveaway? Am I posting the give away on the wrong day? Is the prize not worth it? How can I improve?"
2. Be sure to leave a valid email address with each comment.
3. This contest is open to U.S. mailing addresses only.
4. You have until Sunday, September 27th, at noon (mountain time).
5. Then I will choose a random winner.
6. Only one comment per email address allowed.
7. I will try to publish the winner by Monday evening.
8. Not sure all these stipulations are actually necessary when I don't get any comments anyway....oh well...I think I'll go eat worms.

NO LONGER CAMERA SHY

Is this boy a cutie-pie or what! I'm going to have to beat the girls off with a stick, when he's a teenager!

Hammin' it up for the camera!

HAVE A NEW KID BY FRIDAY...Attending Church

Dr. Leman says, "Far too many parents tread on their teenager's feelings on this issue and ramp up this situation until it becomes a war. First of all, don't deny your children's feelings. [Referring to your child saying that the kids in youth group are geeks an weirdos...]...By telling the truth and agreeing with your child, you'll: (1) surprise your child and get her to pay attention to your next words, and (2) get on the same playing field as your child, where you're seeing eye to eye." (p.103)

"What you say next is crucial: 'Your mother and I only ask you to do a few basic things and one of those things is to go to our place of worship. We know you don't want to be there, but we want you to know we are thankful that you are willing to come with us out of respect for us. So please get ready for church.' (p. 103-104)

If they still say they aren't coming don't make a federal case out of it, "Simply get ready for church and leave." (p. 104)

Then Dr. Leman says that after church you should make a day of it. Go out for lunch, see a movie, do some shopping...etc..and when your child complains when you come home ignore it. He says to do this the next week too. Then tell him,

"I realize you're an individual, and we're not all the same. You don't have to believe what I believe. I can't make you go to church. But I want to make it clear to you that I expect you to be with us next Sunday. Is that understood." All of a sudden the person in authority has changed....In many cases, this is all the tough love that's needed. (p. 104)

"Sometimes, though a teen will still absolutely refuse to go, even after you tried the previous steps of tough love. If your teen decides he doesn't want to contribute in that way, ramp up what he needs to contribute in another area. Don't let your child get off scot-free just because he doesn't "feel like" being a part of the family." (p. 105)

"And here's a secret: because at the hear to every child is a longing to belong and be accepted, it won't be long, after using this technique, that your child will begin to feel lonely and want to be part of the family again-including attending your place of worship." (p. 105)

I don't believe that this method will always work. I was raised Catholic and we HAD to go to church every week, no matter what. I wanted the approval of my parents so I never bucked the system, but if my parents had given me this option, I don't think I would have gone to church. Faith and your belief system is a very personal journey and you have to find your own way in it. It took a divorce, depression and totally losing myself to finally find my way to having a close relationship to God and by then I was 30. I will certainly encourage Samuel to believe as we believe, but in the end, ultimately, it's between him and God.
