OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT

You have to read this article about what is going on at one of our local high schools. Actually, it's the high school that my elementary school feeds into.

This is the principal that threw out the schedules....

This is the assistant superintendent that is going to take over as principal...

And this is Winston Brooks our present superintendent...

.....who supported the principal until parent outrage finally forced him to replace her.

Basically, the schedules weren't ready the first day of school and most kids only had their 1st, 3rd and 5th period classes. During the other periods kids would roam the campus causing problems.

Even though this has been going on now for nearly a month, APS claims that students have only "really" lost just ONE day of instruction.

Some of the most disturbing parts of the article:

"On Tuesday the 1,700 students received their new schedules, and 700 of them quickly requested changes with one senior saying he'd been assigned to a freshman class he'd already taken.

APS said it's giving priority to schedule-change requests from seniors who say they don't have the classes they need to graduate."
AND...
"APS also announced Wednesday that since the end of last week, 12 students have been granted transfers out of RGHS. Some will go to another school in the district, and six have opted to leave the school system all together.

Through this scheduling debacle, APS has learned three students who graduated recently didn't have the necessary credits to do so. The district hasn't decided what to do about it if anything at all."

I hope you can read between the lines to hear my real comments because if I said how I really feel I'd probably get fired and I need my job.

Wow, talk about meltdown! Sounds like a pretty massive failure to me. How sad that she doesn't acknowledge it, nor does her boss.

OH MY GOSH!! Where in the HELL is the state DOE??? I mean, seriously. I would think they need to take over the school district...here in TX, they have done that to a few schools to get them cleaned up. And how in the WORLD has the super not been fired? Does the board not care what is going on?? Or are they just as incompetent...wait, maybe I already know the answer to that one!

And may I ask what the hell the staff were doing over the break if they weren't working on getting students the schedules worked out? Is it done by a computer? What the hell is going on over there??? I would be absolutely APPALLED if my kid was in that school...believe me, the news media and the board would be hearing from me!!!

Have you considered teaching elsewhere? A private school? Or in another district? Well, maybe you have...
