TWO SENSE TUESDAYS #39...Gimme Gimme Syndrome

Being a new mother I seem to get a lot of advice, which can be helpful, but is also very frustrating when it's from people who are insistent that their way is the BEST way. I also get advice (because I'm an adoptive mother) from those who think that my son is just a stand-in until I get "the real thing."

Each week I will post a new question. I'd love it if you'd play along and offer us new mothers your pearls of wisdom.

HERE IS THIS WEEK'S QUESTION:

HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THE GIMME GIMME SYNDROME THAT HAS INFECTED CHILDREN THESE DAYS?

I only have questions ready to post until the end of 2009. What are your ideas or issues you are having and I will pick the best ones to post in 2010.

Gosh, I don't know exactly. We're having issues with our 3 year old at the moment. Seems to be a new phase. I will say this though, I think there is wisdom in letting your children be dissapointed. When she begs for something (candy) and she can't have it, I tell her no. When she throws a fit she gets a swat and gets sent to sit on her bed... I hope it works.

Not having been there yet all I can say is that I hope that by not putting importance on things it will help lessen the Gimme's.
I've actually been giving a lot of thought to this subject with Christmas coming.

Go to some message boards and see what questions are being asked. That's the only advice for 2010 I could suggest.
