Being a new mother I seem to get a lot of advice, which can be helpful, but is also very frustrating when it's from people who are insistent that their way is the BEST way. I also get advice (because I'm an adoptive mother) from those who think that my son is just a stand-in until I get "the real thing."
Each week I will post a new question. I'd love it if you'd play along and offer us new mothers your pearls of wisdom.
HERE IS THIS WEEK'S QUESTION:
AT WHAT AGE DID YOU START OFFERING A CUP (SIPPY OR OTHERWISE) TO YOUR CHILD?

Both of mine went straight from breast to bottle around 12 months (give or take.) I started giving them a little water in it to 'play' with so they could get the hang of it and then when the pediatritian gave the go ahead for regular milk we were set.
Hadn't really thought about this one! I guess I'll just base it on Charlie and how he eats, etc. Maybe around eight months or so...? That seems to be a pretty good time to introduce it maybe at meal times, and then slowly offer more as he gets better with it.
I started with the 2 handle training sippy cup at about 6 months with both of mine. Even if they didn't drink well out of it for a little bit, they got used to holding it, hearing about it and what it was for, etc. From what I remember, they were both very quick to catch on and begin using them at 6 to 8 months whenever they were sitting eating in their high chairs.
I started both of my kiddos out at 6months old with a sippy cup of water. That is when I started cereal so it was natural to give them a sippy cup (with two handles). They had the hang of the sippy cup early on, and it made the transition out of the bottle at a year old easier:)
What a great question! I've been wondering that myself. I have one, but I haven't introduced it yet. My baby's grandma has, though, with my blessings, and he seems to like it (he's 7 months). I think I just love feeding Andrew his bottles and I'm in no hurry for him to grow up. By 12 months, though, I know I need to have him weaned from the bottle, so I'll start using the sippy cup at least once a day by the time he's 8 months.
I read too late that you should give them a cup to play with and get used to earlier. So our next one I'll likely do it around 6-8 months.
But we gave Isabel a cup (no handles) just before 11 months. The spout part really made a difference to the cup she would take and it took a few different ones to find the best (Nuby from Walmart). When we switched her from bottle to milk in a cup at 12 months it took less then a week and all she drinks out of now is her cup.
