New Sleep Pattern!?!

For a few nights this past week I fed Samuel at around 9:30 p.m. and he slept until around 4 a.m. Then after feeding, he went back to sleep until around 8 a.m. He was then awake for the rest of the morning and then slept again from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Then he took one more nap around 7 p.m. until 8 or 8:30 p.m. He was eating 5-6 ounces.

Now we are back to feedings at 10 p.m., 1 a.m. and again at 4 a.m. I had high hopes, but I guess he's just too young yet.

Since I normally get up at 5 a.m. to shower for work, I think I'm going to stay up when I feed him at 4 a.m. and get a few chores done first. Once I'm awake my mind won't shut off again, so I may as well get something useful done, like blogging. My husband and I are spending the next week "pretending" I'm back at work, kind of like a dry run, before the real thing happens. On his early days, I leave at 6 a.m. and the babysitter shows up at 7 a.m. So, if I can get Samuel back to sleep around 4:30 a.m., he should be good to go. On his late days, the babysitter doesn't show up until 9 a.m., so he may have to do one feeding before she shows up.

It's amazing what getting rid of the feeding between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. did for me. Six hours of consistent sleep felt wonderful, while it lasted. I guess I can always dream!

Hi, Tracey! I have been catching up with some of your posts.

That mom of the octuplets was something else.

I pray that your dry run goes well this week.

Give Samuel a big smooch for me. He is so yummy in all of the pictures that you have shared.:)

Have a blessed day, Tracey!
BIG HUGS!

Maybe he's just hit a growth spurt this week, and he'll not need that feeding after a few days.

See, me being hopeful too. I remember those days. Barely.

I hope the transition back to work goes well.

Our kiddo would sleep 6 hours in a row every once in awhile during the first three months. It was rare and unpredictable. For him, it was never a pattern, just luck. At around 2-3 months, some time in there, he started consistently sleeping 5 hours in a row at night. Then we moved him into his crib and he's working on getting 5 hours in a row again.

Figuring out their sleep has become the most confusing thing for me. One thing that helped me so, so much were the tips in the No Cry Sleep Solution. That book isn't a program so much as a bunch of suggestions about how a baby's sleep is similar and different from adult's sleep, and solutions that help. Not every tip would work for every baby, but I'm glad I read it.

Good luck transitioning back to work! I'm sure it will be stressful, but I hope you enjoy being back. I bet your students miss you:-)

I am thinking it might be a growth spurt too. Best wishes with the dry run!

You'll get back to the 6 hours, don't worry. It may be rough for a few weeks but you'll fall into a great pattern. Make sure you use your weekends for sleeping and playing with the baby. Housework will always be there but he will never be this age again!

He will get there! Isabel slept from 6:30 - 1:30 the other night. 7 straight hours. Of course she spent the day with her grandparents and cousins that day so she was exhausted.
