Prayers needed...

My mother has always been an active lady, but she hasn't been feeling well lately. The doctors say she has IBS, which makers her feel sick to her stomach, bloated and tired. She gets depressed when she doesn't feel well because she dwells on her age and not feeling well and it becomes a downward spiral that brings her even lower. She's on a special diet now (which she hates because she loves food and can't eat the things she used to) and that was helping for a couple weeks, but she's back to feeling yucky again. She's lost a lot of weight and isn't sleeping well either. She has to go in for blood tests tomorrow and she's seeing a gastroenterologist. She also has atrial fibrillation. We've been dealing with this for a few years and she can now deal with her episodes herself instead of rushing to the hospital, but it still takes a lot out of her. My dad gets so worried about her and then he gets depressed too. They've been married for 64 years (this December) and they are each others lives. I know I shouldn't worry and just leave it in God's hands, but I still do.

I pray that the health issues would just settle down and they could just play cards, ping-pong, have coffee with friends and have an occasional dinner out. They deserve a quiet, peaceful time now and I wish I could give that to them.

IBS can be so debilitating. It's hard to leave the house when you have to be close to a bathroom all the time. My mom has Chron's disease and also had some sort of intestinal bug a few years back that required some strong meds. The combination left her with a very bad stomach. She's often in the bathroom more times than she can count in the morning and has had accidents at work. She gets pretty humiliated and embarrassed. My point? I feel your mom's pain and they'll both be in my prayers.

Tracey,

I'm so sorry about your mom; I hope she is feeling better.

There are things that can be done to help with atrial fibrillation. Please come learn more at our resource for atrial fibrillation patients and their families. I used to suffer from afib, too.

Warmest wishes,

And? I have many family members with IBS and similar conditions-they stink! Blessings to them that it becomes manageable quickly!
