One Step Closer.......Home Study

Technically we were approved and became active on June 26th, but we just got the first draft of our HOME STUDY in the mail the other day. All single spaced, 15 pages of it. We are very happy with Adoption Assistance Agency. Lisa, our caseworker, has always been very helpful, caring and understanding. Our agency is very small, but they do about 24 adoptions a year and with only 5 caseworkers, they are very, very busy. Being a small organization, they can focus on their clients better and give us the one on one attention and support that we wanted. This has been such an emotional journey, that it feels good to be with an agency that understands that.

Anyway, Lisa, sent the home study draft to proofread. There were 4 or 5 little errors with dates or ages etc, but beyond that, it's great! It was fun reading over our family history, how we met, beliefs, records checks and psychological report. They were extremely thorough. Lisa made our interviews fun and she wrote furiously trying to get it all down.

What a change from our experience with CYFD (Children, Youth and Families Department). We were so frustrated when we were dealing with them. They were not very supportive, they didn't keep us up to date on what was happening and after a year, we were no closer to adoption then the day we started. We were just a number to them. No one cared. I feel sorry for the children that are involved in this system. You can read about that experience here.

So, now we are back to waiting, again. I'm really ok. I know there is a beautiful light at the end of this tunnel and this just checks one more thing off the list.

Thanks for your sweet comments on my Journey to Parenthood. Oh how I remember those days and frustrations. We're discussing adopting a second child and aren't sure we're ready for such a roller coaster again. However, the end result is so worth EVERY MOMENT OF PAIN and FRUSTRATION along the way.

IF you EVER NEED TO TALK shoot me an email and we'll exchange #s. The same goes for your husband. We'll both be happy to provide support, answers and/or prayer to you both. We need eachother and couldn't have made it w/o those who succeeded before us.

Yea! I'm so happy that you have one more thing checked off. It's good to feel the progress. I so pray for the children who are in the foster system it's a horrible place and there are so many qualified loving people like yourself that would take them if only someone would let you. I'm glad your birthmom chose life and chose you.

That's great! It is fun to read through the finished report. We have our social worker coming Wed to do our home visit and then we will be done and ready to wait!
