The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry.

My plan book starts at the beginning of the week looking like this (click to enlarge) and even this is a little messy, with stuff left over from the previous week.....but

...by the end of the week it ends up looking like this (click to enlarge)!

There's nothing wrong with this...it's just that the plans for the week never quite go as planned. So I check off what I get done in a day and draw arrows when things get moved and by the end of the week, I'm the only one who knows what ends up. I would say that each week, 2-3 things end up moving to the following week. You never can tell what will click with a kid and what they just won't get and you'll then have to review and reteach the next day.

Am I the only one that thinks the school day and year should be longer. We attend from 8 am to 2 pm right now. I wish I had just one more hour a day with them. When I was a kid my school year was from Labor Day to the end of June. I think we should start in mid-August and go to the end of June. I think six weeks off is plenty in the summer. What do you think?

I think six weeks is plenty. Also wish our district would do year round school. One near here does and they have lots of mini breaks while we hit the ground running in late August and barely get a day here and there until the end of May. Everyone is exhausted by March.

Michigan just passed a law last year that school for K-12 students can't start until after Labor Day. I like that idea in theory, but I've actually heard a lot of good things about schools (like in Las Vegas) that go year round. Maybe that's the way to go? The classroom I'll be in this coming semester goes from 8:50 to 3:40 so it's only slightly longer than yours. Interesting topic, and I LOVE your planner pictures!

My kids go from 8:30 to 3:30. But we start way too late. We don't start until after Labor day...This Tuesday. And we get out the middle of June.

I would love a year round schedule with several couple weeks off through out the year instead of one long summer vacation.

I was talking with someone recently who was talking about the plan for year round school. With breaks scheduled in for a few weeks. Sounded like a good idea to me.
