TIGHTWAD TUESDAY #1
I'm always on the lookout for ways to save money:
1. Vinegar is a great invention. It makes a great salad dressing, is a natural insect repellent and when you clean your floor with it, it will keep away sugar ants.
2. Buying in bulk can be a saver too. I usually can find meat for around $2.50 or less, a pound in 5-10 pound packages and then I just put it into smaller portions when I get home and freeze it. Another one is spices. Have you seen how much a jar of cinnamon goes for. I filled my cinnamon container, at Wild Oats, the other day for only $0.50. YAH! I KNOW AMAZING!
3. My husband and I eat out about twice a month and we go to places that allow you to split the plates with no extra cost. We realised that when we both ordered our own appetizer, main dish and dessert, that we always came home with leftovers. Now we order one appetizer, one main dish and one dessert and we share it. It's plenty of food and costs much less.
4. Thrift stores, consignment shops, Goodwill, and yard sales have saved me tons. I could go on and one about the deals you can find at these places. I've never been into brand names (Being the last of 8 children, my mother started us out early looking for bargains.) only quality. I love clothes and I can satisfy my "need" to shop and be frugal at the same time. You'd be amazed how easy it is to convince kids to shop this way, when you show them how many "more" toys they can get for the same amount of money. You can even find some designer items if your willing to take some time and look. Being petite, it's actually easier for me to find clothes at these kinds of stores.
I've been outfitting my nursery lately and I've got 95% of the clothes, blankets, toys, books and a few larger items at yard sales. I can take $20.00 out of the bank, leave for a couple hours and come home with armloads of treasures. Check out this post and this post.
5. Buy generic and use a shopping list. Just these two little things have saved me a bunch.
6. Forgo instant gratification. We've bought all our furniture with cash. We save for what we want and then buy it, we hunt for "no interest and no payments for a year" type deals and we pay it off before the year is up and/or we look at discontinued or slightly damaged items. Our main goal is the quality. We don't buy furniture made out of fiberboard or pressed wood. They just don't last.
I'd love to hear all your ways to save too.

Thanks for sharing your tips.I love hearing about what others do to save money.
These are great tips.
Shannon and I are trying now to find new ways to stretch our ever shrinking dollars.
I will let you know some of our ideas as I get them down on paper.
I did not know that about the cinnamon from Wild Oats...I am going to get Shannon to go there next time for our spices....Great idea! Shannon goes through a lot of cinnamon.
God Bless,
Amy:)
We do these things as well. Our Goodwill store will get brand new dresses and clothes from local stores like Macy's that didn't sale, maybe slight imperfections, etc.! Matching coupons with sales has saved me a ton on household items and personal care items. The savings aren't as great on food items but, saving so much on other things we need helps to balance that out.
When we eat out with two kids, we generally each buy a meal and the kids eat off of us! Neither or them eat enough to each have a kid's meal and at nicer rest., those can be expensive!!
Thanks for the tips!
I just went to the book store yesterday to buy a "Frugal Living for Dummies" book to try to help out a financially struggling family member and look forward to reading it myself. We're waste a lot of money in my own house.
A girl after my own heart.
I clean with vinegar too and my husband and I do the exact same thing at restuarants.
