We've been actively waiting for our new little one since June. With our family and work, I've been kept very busy, so I haven't been as anxious as last time. MY PLAN....(ha ha) was for this baby to come at the end of the school year...that would be perfect timing.....

I was at promethean board training all day Saturday and had my phone turned off.

When I got in my car, I turned my phone on, and found that I had 5 texts and messages. I was very excited when someone from the agency called me and said we have news......

I'm thinking...oh someone has chosen us and wants to meet. WONDERFUL....then......

....I called our case manager back and she said, "I'm holding your new little boy."

My mouth dropped open. I called my husband right away.

We made tons of phone calls, got Sam's nanny to stay longer and drove an hour up to Santa Fe to meet him.

"J," the birth-mom, (who is 18) didn't feel comfortable meeting us, but Grandma wanted to meet us. We chatted for a while and she said she was very excited for us and that this was the best decision.

There's some history of drug abuse and I can't just stop teaching.....so we have a few kinks to work out, but I need to breath and take one day at a time. Andrew was born at 6:27 a.m. and weighed 6 pounds. He was also carried full term, which is a great sign.

Andrew will have to stay in the hospital while he detoxes, but at least he won't remember it. We're not really sure when we'll be bringing him home. It may be a week or a month depending on how he reacts to the medicine.

I GOOGLED a bunch of information about detoxing and the part that gave me the most hope was this...."Most infants affected by withdrawal symptoms achieve normal growth and development by around 6 months of age and suffer no long term harm, if they are cared for properly."

We are going back to Santa Fe today to sign papers and spend some more time with Andrew.

We calculated backwards and realized that this little man was conceived before we even knew we would be adopting. God had this planned all along. It's all in His hands!

God is good!
