TWO SENSE TUESDAYS #31...Bad Language

Being a new mother I seem to get a lot of advice, which can be helpful, but is also very frustrating when it's from people who are insistent that their way is the BEST way. I also get advice (because I'm an adoptive mother) from those who think that my son is just a stand-in until I get "the real thing."

Each week I will post a new question. I'd love it if you'd play along and offer us new mothers your pearls of wisdom.

HERE IS THIS WEEK'S QUESTION:

WHAT DO YOU DO/SAY WHEN YOUR CHILD USES BAD LANGUAGE?

It's funny...they do definitely know they've done something wrong, so they already look guilty when I start the discussion. I keep it short and sweet: Those words are rude, and not for kids. Please don't use them. They get it. They also police for the use of "God" as in Oh my God, because I've told them this is disrespectful. They bust a lot of folks on that one!

I ask my kids if they hear me use those words. I tell them that if they did, then I along with them need to work at not speaking that way because it isn't language we would use if Jesus was in our presence. If they did not hear it from me I let them know the reason I don't say those words is because it isn't acceptable.
It is definitely one of our biggest problem areas. Each day I pray for strength for myself and my kids to watch our words.

Hi, I'm a new follower. Come check out my blog too! I think we've got a little in common!

I simply tell my monkeys that we don't use that word in our house. That it isn't acceptable, and I help them find another acceptable word to use in it's place.
