My train is off the tracks.......

It's 3:10 A.M. and I've been awake for about an hour, "thinking." Usually it's students and school responsibilities that stress my mind and keep me awake, but this time it's Sam. Need to get thoughts out of head so I can sleep....I don't think I can make this post make sense, so I'll just write as my train of thought goes........off the track...here we go........

......I need to get a haircut before Sam comes...she's across town and I'm not putting a baby through that trip...Lord knows when I'll get another....I need a baby album...I'll probably get one for the shower...

.....It never even dawned on me to invite Richard's mom, step-mother and sister (they live in CA).....will they see it as a slight if they are not invited or as a plea for another gift....ask Richard in morning....

......Should I move the rocking chair in the living room or just buy another one...

.....I need to put all Sam's stuff out about a month early to get used to it being around and for the animals to smell it....

.....Does the Diaper Genie thing make sense or should I just go with a trash can...it will be a pain to empty the smaller one so often ...maybe a trash can is better...

......I need to go through the pantry and give extra food to church so there is room to Sam's food and supplies...speaking of which ...I should probably go through all the cabinets, closets, etc...and make room for Sam's "stuff"...

......Call financial advisor guy to put Sam on life insurance...hhmmm ask about AIG...not doing well in markets...

......Buy shed to get stuff out of garage to make more room....

......Move chair, stool and knick knacks...make room for pac-n-play, bouncy seat and activity center....

.....Call Bob about handy man stuff needing to get done in November before Sam comes....

......Should I hire a good cleaning service for November to give the house a really good cleaning before Sam arrives?

.....Put a note on doorbell about "napping baby, please knock."

.....Talk to Genie (sister)...we usually do Thanksgiving here and Xmas dinner there...should we switch...do something different this year...I'd rather not tote Sam all the way across town when he's only a few days old....

.....Find pediatrician....when are parenting classes with agency....when does he get circumsized....baptisted....call church????

.....Classroom plans for six weeks I'm out...January and 2 weeks in February....get extra crib to Mary Lou's.

......"K" allergic to dairy....use soy or rice based formula...have heard soy is bad for boy babies too much estrogen....???

......God, calm my brain....relax my nerves......it will all be ok......I smile as I reread this...doesn't make much sense, but it makes me happy too....I'll finally be a "mama." Ok, now I'm tearing up....time to go back to bed.........

Bless your heart; it will all be okay. As soon as you see Sam, you will know what needs to be done. Minute by minute is much easier than the big picture, especially with babies.
God is giving Sam to you and your husband, because He trusts you both completely with him. He knows that you and your husband will love Sam more than anyone or anything else in the world.
So, no worries my friend. God knows you are up to the task.

You are going to be a wonderful mama!:)

Sigh.

I'm praying for you and your family.
God Bless,
Amy:)

Tracey you are going to be a wonderful mom - you are so organized! It will all fall into place and Sam isn't going to know if things aren't in just the right place, but he will know he is loved.

DIAPER GENIE! Or at least a similar one. We have one that I just buy regular trash bags for not the expensive ones.
I wouldn't worry about the cleaning service before he comes home. Maybe at six months when he's closer to crawling and getting into things. But at first he'll just sleep where ever you put him.

The doorbell thing... I read somewhere and have always done with Izzy home... I kept the TV on while she napped downstairs in the beginning and never made it extra quiet for her. That way she doesn't wake at the slightest sound since she never had complete quiet.
Soy can also create peanut allergies. I'd try the lactose free stuff and see if you can get him tested to see if it's necessary. Big hassle if he's not allergic.
You're so cute with all these thoughts. Makes me real glad I had a week and didn't have months of these kind of nights. You're going to do great. You've read and prepared so much. And when he's home you're just going to know what to do or you're going to freak out but it will be the best feeling in the world.
Hope you got back to sleep.

I can see some of these ramblings will be very similar to my own once we are expecting.

Since you are one bargain hunting thrifty gal I would say buy another rocking chair. Knowing you, you will find the perfect one at such a great price and I think it would be nice to be able to rock Sam in both rooms.

Get your hair cut. I know that for me I will have to get mine cut and colored before baby arrives.

Your post made me smile too.

Nesting already!! Everything will fall into place. You'll see that all this worry was wasted energy.

Do NOT put a sign on your door bell!!! MUST make noise when baby naps....I'm not talking beating on the drums noise....I'm talking every day living noise...take it from someone who learned the hard way!

I hate the Diaper Genie, but had three in diapers at once and had to change it about 6 times a day, or maybe that's an exageration. I just started taking them to the outside trash immediately. It was a good way to get a breath of fresh air every couple of hours. Weather permitting the diaperee would come with. It's not as convenient but I haven't had a stinky diaper in the house for three years, Now I'm done. Yeah.

Tracey,
You're going to be a wonderful mom! All these things will fall into place. I was a wreck before Justin came home. Ask my dh, I was a total nut! :)
God chose you and your dh to be Sam's forever parents. What an awesome gift.
One thing I can answer, is skip the diaper genie and go with the diaper champ. You can use regular trash bags and don't have to buy those pricey cartridges. I had a diaper champ, found it at the consignment shop and it kept the diaper smell out. You can get them at Babies R Us.
You're going to be a great mom!
Hugs,
Michele

Oh, you are right about the last thing you said..it WILL be ok. But I know...it can all be so overwhelming when you think of all that has to be done in a short time.

I love my Diaper Genie (I have the Diaper Champ, which I think is better because you can use regular trash bags instead of the special bags that the Diaper Genie requires). But I know a lot of people hate them, so it's really up to you.

Good ramblings...we have a rocker in baby's room for during the night and times we need quiet. We also have one in the living room just because I love to rock kids! Your SBP

Welcome to the Mamahood! Our daughter is almost 8 years old and I never explained to DH how many things are going through my head at one time until recently.

You'll be great when Sam arrives. You may not get through all the things your brain adds up on a list of things to do, but that's OK. I never get through everything I'd like to do in the time I think about it.

DH yesterday was bugging me about the bus route for our daughter's elementary school. It's such a minor complaint I told him "That's the lowest priority of issues I need to follow up on!" Gotta love him!

All moms can relate to all the concerns!
I have to echo the comments about keeping every day noises going while baby sleeps. You never want it too quiet!
Both of mine slept through LOUD basketball game buzzers and LOUD football fans at their daddy's games! B/C there was always normal noise at home. Both mine had week NICU stays and the nurses told me it is NEVER quiet in there of course so, if I kept it too quiet, they wouldn't sleep!
Didn't like my Diaper Genie. Refills expensive. Kind of a pain to use. We switched to throwing them in a covered trashcan in the garage, NOT in the house, and taking that out often.
You might have to try and see which you prefer.
Do you have care for him lined up when you go back to work?

I love posts like this. And now you have a record of all the things you want/need to do...of course you should now let us now when you cross something off the list. :)

Do keep praying for God to give you peace...everything will be fine.

You will be a great mother...all of these concerns show that.
