I HAVE A QUESTION

THE BIBLE series has started on the history channel. Episode one takes us through the first 5 books of the Bible: from Adam and Eve to Joshua getting ready to take Jericho.

One of my questions is this....

Before Moses and Joshua, the Israelites do not have the Ten Commandments yet, not to mention all the laws that governed everything in their daily lives from what to eat, cleanliness, marriage, debts, offerings, how to tend the dead and how to worship.

How then did they know how to behave properly to please God?

I know there were prophets that God spoke to, but how did the general population know what was "right" and what was "wrong?"

There were many "ities" like: Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites that God sent Joshua to conquer, since they had fallen away from Him. How was it known that the way they lived was wrong?
