HONESTY FOR GRADUATES

Recently I read some advice for graduates at THE PRINCIPLES PAGE. I know he was being sarcastic, but piggy backing off of what he said, I wanted to put in my two cents.

Dear Graduates,

Yesterday you graduated! CONGRATULATIONS! Now what are you going to do?

You're going to need an attitude adjustment. Life is not all horrible or all happy. Hard does not mean impossible. Be a person of integrity. The vast majority of us have to work and now it's your turn. Decide now to do what is right. Don't be rude. Treat people with kindness not sarcasm.

Marry your best friend. Yah, I know, it sounds hokey now, but trust me, you only want to do this once and it needs to be based on humor and mutual respect because your going to need the humor and someone one to stand by you, no matter what, in the hard times.

Please don't have children before you're, at least, 25. You don't have to have children because all your friends have children. Make sure you are employed. They are expensive and welfare was not intended to be used as option #1.

Option #2 is not living with your parents. They are done raising you. They want their lives back. Move out already.

Don't eat donuts all day and then wake up, 10 years down the road, confused, wondering why you're fat....I've got news for you...it's the 10 years of eating donuts.

Take responsibility for your own behavior and choices. Own up to your mistakes. No one else can make you happy, but you.

You do not NEED a new house right now. Apartments are very freeing. Expect and plan to have problems. I guarantee you, they will come, so save for them now!

Don't use profanity. It only proves how little you know.

Use the term, "I get to go to work," not "I have to go to work."

Whatever you do....DO IT TO THE BEST OF YOUR ABILITY!

Always keep learning.

Enjoy the journey, not just the destination.

Wonderful advice. If only every graduate would take these to heart...
