UP, UP AND AWAY!

Sam will be taking his first plane trip in April. It will only be a 2 hour flight, but I'm worried about his ears not popping, him screaming the entire time and/or getting air sick. I am looking for advice, people. I've heard that I should give him a little Sudafed right before we take off, give him a sippy cup of water, so that he'll swallow and bring some "new" toys so that he'll be interested and occupied.

How about some snacks that he really likes for him to munch on especially if he won't drink from his sippy cup. I think when it comes to flying with a child, it might be better to over prepare/over pack - just in case - you are stuck on the tarmac, he has a really messy diaper (you need a change of clothes), etc. I hope Sam has a blast!

I haven't heard the Sudafed one...I HAVE heard of using Benadryl to knock 'em out, though! (never tried it myself) We have always traveled with our car seat, so there is a familiar element (plus, you'll need one on the other end). Agree with all the other solutions. Lots of snacks and new goodies. I'm a big fan of puppets...my kids never got tired of those.

Whitney has flown 8 times so far and we've never had any issues. In fact, she usually falls asleep right after take-off! We give her a binky (or a bottle when she was really little) during take off and landing, and we brought along our portable DVD player and ipad. Neither of the electronics were really necessary though once she laid eyes on the new Snow White figurines I bought the week before our latest trip :) They were new and exciting and fabulously entertaining for 2 hours. Im not sure if youll be staying within the US, but we learned the hard way that milk is not "the same" in some foreign countries, so if there is something Sam reallllly likes or needs, try to bring it along with you or research alternatives ahead of time. Bon Voyage!

We always bring snacks and a drink (the one time my mom took him and didn't he did complain that his ears hurt). We bring his dvd player with headphones, and a few games to play that will fit on the little tray. Good luck!

Hi Tracey -
I hear that you, Sam & Richard are coming to St. Helena for Fran's Birthday Party. Terrific news! It will be so wonderful for Sam to meet his California Cousins & I know that Fran will be so delighted you all are coming!!! Important Birthday & All . . .
Anyway - don't worry about Sam on the plane too much - as Jack & Annabel were both seasoned travelers by the time they were two. We even traveled to Italy with Jack & he did just fine . . .

Wishing YOU a Wonderful Trip to "Wine Country" & Sending Love . . .
