Being a new mother I seem to get a lot of advice, which can be helpful, but is also very frustrating when it's from people who are insistent that their way is the BEST way. I also get advice (because I'm an adoptive mother) from those who think that my son is just a stand-in until I get "the real thing."
Each week I will post a new question. I'd love it if you'd play along and offer us new mothers your pearls of wisdom.
HERE IS THIS WEEK'S QUESTION:
WHAT DO YOU FEEL IS THE RIGHT AGE AND REASON FOR A CHILD TO HAVE A CELL PHONE?

I am freakishly vocal about this one, and stubborn! There is no reason that a child should have a cell phone until they are 16 and driving. Before then you should know where your children are at all times. With my daughter, if she was going to something that she might need one she just borrowed mine. I go crazy when I see kids as young as first grade with cell phones. Totally ridiculous!
I think kids get cell phones WAY too early these days. I think 16 and/or when they have a job to pay for it!!
My son's 13th birthday is next week and my husband and I decided to purchase one for him for his birthday. Hitting the "teen" years is a milestone and he is a very responsible kid and is itching for a little more freedom. I still think it's a bit of a waste of money as the majority of my son's day is spent in school where he is not allowed to have one....and then he spends 20 hours/weeks in gymnastics practice where he doesn't need one. The phone was free with a 2 year contract and he is only getting very basic service and I will be calling the phone company to disable the internet access. So we will see...
