Life Lesson #2...Life is what happens while you're making other plans.
Having a child has been an overwhelming experience. There are so many things I want to teach Samuel. I don't want him to make the same mistakes I did. I think back and wonder how things would have been different if I knew then, what I know now!?!
The second thing I want Samuel to know is that the time to be happy is now! Live in the present and enjoy all the stages you are in. Use your teens and twenties to have experiences, meet new people and try new things.
I spent way too much time waiting for something else to happen to make me happy! I didn't know it was my job to make me happy. I thought....when I pass this test, I'll be happy, when that boy asks me out, I'll be happy or when I graduate, I'll be happy. I spent way to much time looking to the future and I didn't enjoy where I was at the time. I think I missed out on a lot and didn't have experiences because it wasn't in the "plan" I had in my head. I should have used my youth to try new thing and go new place, take classes, try different jobs, travel and date. I was in a big hurry to grow up.
Once the day is over, you can't go back. Live life to it's fullest, Samuel.

Tracey, excellent post! We have been living for years saying "When we have kids!" It's almost shameful. Enjoy today! Definitely! Thanks for the reminder!
This is a great life lesson we all need to keep in mind every day!!
Great lesson for Samuel and us all. I know I'm really guilty of living for the future not today. How do we learn this behavior? Happy New Year!
So true!
I did some "living" in my day, and although there are few regrets, they are still there. Somewhere in between is the balance!
